Taylor Swift & the VMAs

As we have previously mentioned, Taylor Swift is up for an MTV VMA for Best New Artist.

We have just learned a few more details on what Taylor will be doing at the award show tonight. According to US Weekly, Taylor will be introducing the Jonas Brothers' performace-at the request of the Jonas Brothers themselves- we wonder why?! Taylor will also be an MTV red carpet correspondent for the show, so if you tune in an hour early, you can catch that!

Taylor just returned from her first performance over-seas- she just posted this video on her
MySpace, documenting the special event! PS: It's really funny! She's great!

London!!!

The VMAs will air tonight at 9pm (EST), but to catch all of the red carpet action, you can tune in at 8pm.

Jessica Simpson ~ Listening Party & the Opry

Jessica Simpson held a listening party for 200 record industry professionals in Nashville on Thursday night. By Jessica's standards, the party was a success simply for the fact that she didn't throw up. At the beginning of the show, Jessica told the crowd "I'm a little nervous. If I throw up, I'm sorry"...and then ended the show by pronouncing "I didn't throw up!" Jessica played many songs from her upcoming album with a good reception from the crowd, which included her parents, Tina & Joe.

Before leaving the stage, Jessica reminded the audience members that the CD will be available on 9/9...which just so happens to be a lucky number for her since Tony wears #9 on his Dallas Cowboys uniform...awwwwww!

Jessica made her first Opry appearance last night. Did you watch? We did, we were excited for her, but we kinda felt a little let down... she seemed so fake! Her "southern" accent seemed totally over exaggerated. We know she sounds southern sometimes, but this just seemed totally fake to us. We also noticed that her boobs looked a little odd... maybe just a little too overexposed.
Besides that, we thought her performance (the thing that matters most) was alright. Not amazing, not horrible, decent. She was probably really nervous last night too...We hope she didn't puke!

What did you think of her on the Opry?

Want To Dress Like Katie Cook?!

Beautiful CMT host Katie Cook is auctioning off her clothing for a good cause! You can bid on the dress that Katie wore on the season finale on Nashville Star here...all proceeds will benefit Walden's Puddle, which is a wildlife rehabilitation and education center in Joelton, TN.

Just another example of the country community giving back!

Darryl Worley "Tequila on Ice"

CMT just posted the video for Darryl Worley's new single "Tequila On Ice." The song is pretty good- we are impressed! We haven't heard a lot from Darryl lately, so maybe this will bring him back in the limelight.

Click HERE to watch the video on CMT.com.

What did you think? That girl in the video looks a lot younger than he does!

Luke Bryan Review: Tampa

Capitol Nashville’s Luke Bryan is one amazing vocalist and performer. If you’ve ever listened to his album or seen him live, I am sure you wouldn’t hesitate to agree with that statement! There’s no denying the talent this man has- and if you are denying it, you won’t be for long!!

I (Lauren) headed over to Tampa last night for Luke’s show at the Dallas Bull. First off, I have to say that is one rockin’ bar. It’s so clean and everyone there was really friendly. WQYK, the best radio station in Tampa, was there covering the event. They have supported Luke from the start (which makes them even cooler in my book).

I got there early to claim my spot on the floor then once it was finally time, I got in line for my meet & greet. I ran into Luke’s mom while waiting in line. She was SUPER nice like always. I just love her- she’s a pistol! And she's one proud momma (she has every right to be)!
I also met a few really nice girls while waiting in line! (Country music fans are the best!)
Luke was really nice (like always). The meet and greet was pretty fast- I mentioned how I’d be at the show in Indianapolis next week and told him I couldn’t wait to catch his last stop with Kenny.
I headed back down and worked my way through the crowd to my spot. Luke hit the stage around 10:30 and didn't stop until after midnight. He played a few songs from his album then cut to a few covers including, “Fishin’ in the Dark”, “Family Tradition,” and “Hillbilly Deluxe.” One of the best parts of his set was when he sang, Conway Twitty’s “Lay You Down.” As I have previously mentioned, I LOVE that song!!!
Luke also sang a new song, “Welcome to the Farm.” It was really good! I hope it’s a preview of what’s to come- maybe a new album?! The crowd was singing along all night, but when Luke ended the show with his first three singles, "We Rode In Trucks," "Country Man," and "All My Friends Say," everyone went CRAZY! I kept thinking, it has to be such an amazing feeling for Luke to hear the crowd belting out the songs on HIS album- the songs HE wrote...That's got to be pretty overwhelming.
I also love how Luke surrounds himself with such great people. I have met a few members of Luke’s “camp” and they are all so nice. Everyone, from his “momma” to his band and merchandise people are all so genuine. They all seem to be so thankful for the success Luke has had. I am too!
This is me with Luke's friend/merch man, Cole. He's awesome. Oh, and you just might hear him on country radio one day too! You also might recognize him from the infamous LBTV videos- "Summer Slam 2008!"
Luke Bryan is a force to be reckoned with!

PS: Don’t forget to keep requesting Luke’s “Country Man.” It’s at #16 this week!

Dierks Bentley Concert ~ Surprise!!!

Dierks Bentley had a show at the BEAUTIFUL Red Rocks amphitheatre outside of Denver, CO last week...check out this video of a couple of surprise guests who showed up during "Every Mile A Memory." Yes, they're completely naked with the exception of the sock hanging from their...their...their you know... (The guests make their entrance around the 0:40 mark)

Brother Trouble

Brother Trouble just got the most exciting news of their career...they have been selected as Kenny Chesney's "The Next Big Star" competition winners! All tour season long, Kenny has held a competition in each city that his tour hits. The local competition is aimed at finding the best singer/songwriter's that have a good shot at making it in country music. The winner of that local competition has gotten the opportunity to open Kenny's show in their home city. Well now that Kenny's tour is winding down, his team has selected the very best of the competition winners - Brother Trouble! The guys will now get their own tour bus to use while they're on the road next week opening up Kenny's final three shows of the tour...they'll also get $25,000 and an audition with BNA Records! Congrats guys...very exciting!

Zac Brown Band ~ Check Them Out!!

Last month, we told you about the Zac Brown Band, so hopefully by now you've checked them out! If not, you HAVE TO...have to have to have to have to have to!! We LOVE them! If you had asked us 3 months ago what the heck ZBB stood for, we'd have been clueless...ask us now and we'll tell you that it stands for the freakin' awesome ZAC BROWN BAND!

Last week, I (Erin) headed down to Boston with a friend to check out a ZBB show at a local bar...Boston, a bar, good music...it really doesn't get much better than that people! The show was awesome...the guys put on a great live spread, just like I figured they would. Their music isn't 100% country...like the guys themselves, the music can't really be classified as 100% anything. It's a little bit country, a little bit Southern rock, a little bluegrass...a little of this, a little of that, 100% GOOD MUSIC! We're both big believers that if the music is good and it moves you, well then the genre doesn't really matter. Zac is the lead singer and of course, he's great...but the band, let me just tell you, he has one ROCKIN' band! (Oh, and one of the songwriter's that he brought on stage to sing with him - HOT!) While you're on their website checking out the music, see if they'll be coming to a city near you to perform soon...and GO! They even have shows opening for Sugarland and Alan Jackson scheduled!

The guys are just as genuine and nice as their songs are great. I got to speak with them both before and after the show and I was excited to learn just how passionate they are about the music. They're just great down to earth people...and Zac even has ambitions of putting out a comedy CD as well as a cookbook!

They are currently in the process of releasing their CD "The Foundation"...it was due out this week, but it had to be pushed back and they don't have a definite date yet, but it will be SOON. If you head on over to their website, you can pre-order the CD and you'll receive an immediate download of the CD as well as the hard copy of the CD in the mail as soon as it's available. You will NOT be disappointed!
Some of our favorite songs...
  • Chicken Fried ~ this song is currently sitting at No. 27 (!!!) on the Billboard charts and you're probably hearing it on your local stations. This song throws the simple things in life that we love all together in a fun way...and on a serious note, it kind of makes you take stock and realize how important those little things really are.
  • Toes ~ Big shout out to Shelby on this one! Shelby was raving about ZBB and about this song "Toes"...so I went to MySpace and checked it out...one play was all it took to get me hooked on this song and these guys. This song is such a fun, tropical song...a 4 minute trip to paradise!
  • Whatever It Is ~ like all of their music, this song just makes you feel good...makes you dance, sing loud, and smile!
  • Highway 20 Ride ~ This song is one that will pull at your heart strings...at least, it did mine. A great song from a Dad's perspective to his young son who may not fully understand all of the Dad's decisions in life, yet the Dad yearns for the son to know how much he loves him. This is one of those "OMG, I have a knot in my stomach" powerful songs ~ in a good way!
Honestly, we can't tell you one song on the whole CD that we DON'T like...and we can't encourage you enough to go give them a listen!

Trace Adkins to Appear in Movie

Trace Adkins will make an appearance on the big screen this fall. Trace has a role in An American Carol, a comedy starring Kevin Farley, Leslie Neilsen, and Kelsey Grammar. The movie is a spoof on the infamous left-wing movie director, Michael Moore. It will hit theaters October 3rd.

Swampstock ~ Postponed

Tim McGraw's Swampstock event has been postponed until next year due to the effects of Hurricane Gustov in the southeast region. The event was to be held on September 13th with special guests Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean and others in addition to Tim and his wife, Faith Hill. Tim released the following statement regarding the event, "We have spoken with local officials, and Neighbor's Keeper Foundation wants to lend its support to those relief efforts. Although Faith and I are personally disappointed, we understand that the priority is people's homes and livelihood in this challenging time. Our prayers are with our friends and neighbors and God bless them."

If you purchased tickets to the event, you can return them for a refund at the place of purchase.

Sugarland ~ Already Gone Video

Sugarland released the video for the new single "Already Gone" today...check it out here. The song, we love...the video, not so much. Sugarland is BETTER than this...they can do BETTER and we want BETTER from them! It's visually appealing as far as the colors and the scenery of the sky in the background...but that's where the compliments end for this one folks.

First of all...why do I have to be blinded by the sun during this video. Several times I had to look away because the light was so bright...surely, when making a music video, the goal isn't to have viewers look away! Then, they chose to tell the three different stories in the car with all of the characters sitting in a car...not the image we expected...and Jennifer and Kristian look great, but why are they singing and dancing on top of cars and what does that have to do with this song?

We don't know...we love Sugarland, love the song, love the director (Shaun Silva,) but the video doesn't do much for us.

On a side note...what kind of lip gloss is Jennifer Nettles wearing in this video??...I love it!!
What do you guys think of the video...love it...hate it?

Jessica Simpson, the Opry, and the ACM....

Jessica Simpson is taking a few more steps to make country music her new home. She stopped by the Academy of Country Music the week to become a member. (Jessica joined the Country Music Association last week.)

Another monumental moment for Jessica is coming up this weekend! She will make her Opry debut on Saturday night. You can tune into GAC at 9pm (EST) to watch the special "Ladies Night" edition of the Grade Ole Opry as Jessica performs on the same stage as Loretta Lynn, Patty Loveless,
and newcomer Crystal Shawanda.

Jessica released a statement about Saturday's appearance. She said, "I'm incredibly honored to be singing here...on this stage which has such rich and amazing history. I get chill bumps just thinking about it."

We sure hope Jessica realizes just how important playing on that stage is! There are artists who would do just about anything to appear on the Grand Ole Opry! We'll be watching on Saturday to see how it goes!

Will you tune in?

Chart Topper

"Now That's What I Call Country" topped the country albums chart this week- selling over 50,000 cds. The album features songs from some of country's hottest acts including, Dierks Bentley, Sugarland, Rascal Flatts, and more!

Stand Up To Cancer

Tonight at 8pm (EST) Sugarland, LeAnn Rimes, and Carrie Underwood will appear on ABC, CBS, and NBC on the Stand Up To Cancer event. These country stars are joining artists such as Fergie, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, and MORE to help raise money and awareness for cancer.

Stand Up To Cancer is encouraging the online community to help raise awareness as well. A 'virtual standup' will take place tomorrow- So for those of you who have MySpace or Facebook, you can show your support by making your status say, "Stand Up To Cancer."

Cancer has hit close to home for both us. We both have multiple family members who have battled (and some who still are currently battling) the disease. It's a very important issue and we think it's amazing that these stars are giving their time for such a worthy cause.

Nashville Going A Little Bit Hollywood?!

Have you guys noticed that country music stars are getting more and more publicity on the Hollywood magazine sites lately? Both OK! Magazine and People Magazine have had a lot of coverage in recent weeks...both online and in print. Maybe Hollywood is catching on that Nashville really is the place to be!

-Here's a
video from Kellie, Taylor, & Julianne from People.com.

-Here's a new Taylor
article (but not really anything we didn't already know!)

-Taylor, Kellie, & Julianne have a small
photo on this week's cover of People.

And just today, People had these two pics on their website...the 1st one of
Keith Urban (w/ Natasha Bedingfield and Usher in conjunction with the NFL Football Kickoff) and the 2nd one of LeAnn Rimes and her husband, Dean Sheremet.
Over at OK! Magazine's website, you can find these country articles on their home page right now...

-
Carrie calls Jessica fat (according to THEM - we're plugging our ears and screaming LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA so we don't have to listen to it - enough already!)

-They caught up with
Miranda Lambert and chatted all about her ever growing farm and all of her animals in this article.

-And then they had
this piece about Carrie being involved in the "Stand Up For Cancer" benefit.

So, it's exciting for country stars to be getting the recognition they deserve...as long as we don't have the paparazzi showing up all over Nashville!!

Jewel's Bus Incident

Jewel's bus driver fell asleep at the wheel on Sunday night. Jewel and husband Ty Murray were not on the bus; passengers were shaken up, but thankfully no one was hurt. The bus ended up in a ditch between Virgina and Tennessee after the Brad Paisley show. Passengers ended up hopping on one of Brad's buses and heading home.

Scary situation, but we're glad no one was hurt! Sounds like someone needed to give her driver a cup of Joe!!

Chart Update

This week's Billboard chart has some surprising (and exciting) moves!

-As
we told you yesterday, Jimmy Wayne captures his 1st No. 1 spot with "Do You Believe Me Now?"...if you haven't seen the video for this song yet, check it out on CMT and GAC...it does a great job of telling the story of the song!

-
Darius Rucker gets his first Top 5 single with "Don't Think I Don't Think About It"...that song moved from No. 7 to No. 5 this week.

-Kid Rock is still climbing with "All Summer Long"...it lands at No. 7 from No. 10 last week. Did you guys know that this song was co-written by Uncle Kracker?! (you know...from his When The Sun Goes Down duet w/ Kenny Chesney)

-
The Lost Trailers have their 1st top 10 single with "Holler Back"...they inch up from No. 11 to No. 10.

Taylor Swift Heads to London & More...

Taylor Swift made her first overseas concert appearance yesterday. She headlined a sold-out show in London! How awesome is that? We love that country artists have the chance to see their fans in other parts of the world!

In other Taylor news, be sure to watch MTV's VMAs this Sunday. Taylor is up for Best New Artist. You can still vote for Taylor
HERE! Taylor recently reminisced about the moment she found out that she was nominated- she said, "I get to go to the VMAs! I didn't think I'd get to go to the VMAs. I'm not that cool. As a country artist, I've been pretty unapologetic about it. [But] it's cool to be included."

We wish her luck! She is up against artists such as Miley Cyrus and American Idol's Jordin Sparks. Here's the full article from MTV.com- Taylor Talks about the story behind the song "Teardrops on My Guitar" and even mentions Joe Jonas.

AND......ABC just posted this behind the scenes video from the CMA Fest. Check it out! Taylor is really funny!

Listen UP!

Hey everyone! This week's Listen UP! is a bit different from the artists we usually bring you. We got an email about this artist and decided to check him out. Colt Ford is a very large man whose music can be described as Country/Southern Rock/ Rap- yes we said rap! He has a great sense of humor and that definitely shows in his music! His most popular song, "No Trash in my Trailer" had us cracking up and the video made it even funnier! If you live in Georgia, you're in luck because he has a FULL list of concerts around the state. We're not sure what to think of him, but we got a kick out of "No Trash In My Trailer!" Here's the video- take a look and let us know what you think!

LeAnn Rimes Struggles With Psoriasis

For the first time ever, LeAnn Rimes is opening up about her long time struggle with Psoriasis. Psoriasis is a chronic immune disorder that can develop at any age. It's difficult to hide and is sometimes very embarrassing. People who struggle with Psoriasis will experience what looks like a skin rash- red scaly patches that itch and sometimes bleed.

LeAnn said she has been battling it since she was two years old. "Not only does that take a physical toll on your body, but it takes an emotional toll," Rimes tells PEOPLE. "I was very self-conscious."

LeAnn has now joined forces with the "Stop Hiding" campaign to help spread the word about the disorder. She is now appearing in PSAs to help educate people about the disorder. You can read LeAnn's story and learn more about the campaign as well as Psoriasis
HERE on their website.

She admits to People Magazine that her husband of almost seven years, Dean, has a lot to do with her publicly disclosing the information about her Psoriasis. She said, "He gives me the courage to do this."

LeAnn will also be appearing on Live With Regis and Kelly today. Check your local listings for airtimes.

Jimmy said, "Not many people get their first shot at living their dream, but I have been given two chances now, and I can't thank country radio, country music fans, and my record label enough for all of their support." The song is the title track from his latest album which was released last week. Congrats Jimmy Wayne!!

Miranda Lambert: True Bad Ass

After seeing Miranda Lambert in concert this past weekend I totally feel the need to write about her today. I was excited to see her with Kenny Chesney on the Florida tour stops since I had already seen LeAnn Rimes with him earlier in the tour (I like to mix things up a bit).

Miranda totally blew me away 2 nights in a row!
I have decided that she is one bad ass chick! She says exactly how she feels and works the stage like a complete rockstar! Another thing I noticed about Miranda is that she is very comfortable in her skin. I appreciate the fact that the girl has some meat on her bones. She looks like a true all American girl and I really like that about her.

Anyway, if you get the chance to see Miranda on tour, her ticket is definitely worth your money! She is actually going to be touring with her boyfriend, Blake Shelton! That sounds like one great show!
